The Gustavus Jazztet in Concert

The Department of Music at Gustavus Adolphus College is pleased to announce the Fall Concert of the department’s Vocal Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combos on Sunday, November 12 at 3:30 p.m. The performance will be presented in Jussi Björling Recital Hall in the Schaefer Center for the Arts and be directed by Gustavus faculty Dave Stamps, Donnie Norton and Masayoshi Ishikawa. This performance includes the premiere of arrangements of two jazz standards by Josh Mason ’17 and Cole Nelson ’18. Admission is free.

The program will open with the Gustavus Vocal Jazz Ensemble and followed by four jazz combos. The selections are as follows:

Vocal Jazz Ensemble: Holocene by Bon Iver and arranged by Kerry Marsh

Blue Note Combo: I Let A Song Go Out Of My Heart by Duke Ellington, Solar by Miles Davis

Impulse Combo: Tenor Madness by Sonny Rollins, Cantaloupe Island by Herbie Hancock

Verve Combo: Take The A Train by Billy Strayhorn, Impressions by John Coltrane

Gustavus Jazztet: Yesterdays by Jerome Kern and arranged by Josh Mason ’17, Pannonica by Thelonius Monk and arranged by Cole Nelson ’18

This concert on Sunday, November 13 by the Gustavus Vocal Jazz Ensemble and four jazz combos will begin at 3:30 p.m. in Jussi Björling Recital Hall. The performance will be live streamed at: Gustavus Live.

Admission to the concert is free.
