The Department of Music at Gustavus Adolphus College is pleased to present one of its own members, Flutist James DeVoll, in a faculty recital on Friday, November 18. With pianist Szu-Ling Wu, James will present this recital beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Jussi Björling Recital Hall. Admission is free and tickets are not required.

James DeVoll is in his 7th year as professor of flute at Gustavus and gives private lessons to 13 current students. In addition to his work at Gustavus, James teaches at the MacPhail School of Music and is a busy freelance flutist in the region.

He will open this solo recital Claude Debussy’s Syrinx, and Edgar Varèse’s Density 21.5. Before taking a short intermission, James will perform the 4-movement Sonata for Flute and Piano by Verne Reynolds. Following intermission, DeVoll and Wu will return to the stage with J.S. Bach’s Sonata in C Major and the Fantasie on Les Indes Galantes by Rameau, written by Paul Taffanel. They will conclude the recital with Najim Hakim’s Caprice en Rondo. 

Flutist James DeVoll and pianist Szu-Ling Wu will present this faculty recital beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, November 18 in Jussi Björling Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
