Yumiko Oshima-Ryan to Present Piano Recital at Gustavus

Gustavus Adolphus College professor of music Yumiko Oshima-Ryan will present a piano recital in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall, Sunday, September 23. This solo recital by Oshima-Ryan begins at 3:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Historical Instruments Residency Presented by Trevor Stephenson at Gustavus

Trevor Stephenson, historical keyboard scholar, will present a residency and recital Friday, September 14 on the Gustavus Adolphus College campus. Using his replica 17th-century Flemish harpsichord and replica late 18th-century fortepiano, Stephenson will perform music by Scarlatti, Handel, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn, and Schubert. The 7:30 p.m. recital in Jussi Björling Recital Hall is free and open to the public.

Gustavus Opens Artist Series with Ladysmith Black Mambazo

Gustavus Adolphus College is pleased to announce the 2007 Gustavus Artist Series season which opens September 28 with South Africa's Ladysmith Black Mambazo. The Czech Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra follows on October 16 and Michael Johnson's annual Christmas concert concludes the season on December 14.

Gustavus Names Owatonna Native Andrew Jensen as Presser Scholar

The Music Department at Gustavus Adolphus College has named 2004 Owatonna High Shool graduate Andrew Jensen as the 2007 - 2008 recipient of the Presser Scholarship. This award, presented annually, is presented to a senior in the department and is based on musicianship, scholarship and contribution to the department.

Gustavus Symphony Orchestra to Present Season Finale Saturday

The Gustavus Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Warren Friesen, will present the Gustavus Adolphus College Department of Music's season finale, Saturday, May 26, beginning at 8:00 p.m. in Christ Chapel. This final performance includes solo performances by three concerto competition winners, Christopher Fogderud, trumpet, Katherine Johns, saxophone and Justin Schramm, marimba. The public is cordially invited to attend this finale concert.

Pianist Alex Zupan to Present Senior Recital

Alex Zupan, senior honors mathematics and honors music major, will present his senior piano recital on Sunday, May 6, beginning at 3:30 p.m. in Jussi Björling Recital Hall on the Gustauvs Adolphus College campus. Following a program which includes works by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin and Ravel, a reception will be held in Mr. Zupan's honor in the recital hall lobby.

Sunday Concerts Feature Student Ensembles at Gustavus

The Department of Music at Gustavus Adolphus College will feature the work of six student ensembles in three concerts on Sunday, April 29. The day of music includes the Flute Choir, Woodwind Ensembles, the Adolphus Jazz Ensemble, Chambers Singers, St. Ansgar's Chorus and the Birgitta Singers. All three performances are free and open to the public.

Vocalists Present Recitals Saturday

The Gustavus Adolphus College Department of Music will present three vocal recitals on Saturday, April 28, in the college's Jussi Björling Recital Hall. The three recitals at 1:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. are free and open to the public.

Choir of Christ Chapel Presents Home Concert, America Sings

Under the direction of Patricia Kazarow, the Choir of Christ Chapel returns from its spring concert tour to present its home concert in Christ Chapel, Friday, April 27 at 7:30 p.m. "American Sings," the theme for this spring's concert, begins at 7:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Weekend of Student Recital Set at Gustavus

A full weekend of senior recitals will be presented by the Department of Music at Gustavus Adolphus College beginning Friday, April 20 through Sunday, April 22, in Jussi Björling Recital Hall. The six performances include both instrumental and vocal recitals and are free and open to the public.
