Street Taken performed by Brian Evans & Eric Boone, Gomez Dance Group
Gomez Dance Group will present Reunions – a show that reunites past and present company members for a concert with tremendous range of physicality and emotion – at Patrick’s Cabaret in Minneapolis, June 3 & 4 at 8:00 p.m. Artistic Director Maria Gomez Tierney, former member of the Gustavus Department of Theatre & Dance, has invited former company members Sarah Hauss and Eric Boone back for the performance, along with dance alumni from Gustavus who studied with Gomez Tierney between 1998 and 2007.
Gomez Tierney and her dancers will present five new and diverse works. The trio Sweet Life takes us on a romp through an imaginary playground. The rhythmically dreamlike duet She Came For Her shows dancers interacting in a mysterious encounter. Street Taken, a dark and edgy duet, is set on Boone and company member and Gustavus alum Brian Evans ’07. Falling Into You explores the different ways that people give and take in relationships. Plastic bags crumple, fall, fly, stretch, and soar in Hauss’ Try Another Way. Composer Brian Roessler of the Fantastic Merlins underscores the tension, emotion and humor in this poignant dance.
Company members include Katy Becker, Brian Evans ’07, Lynn Hoffman, and Gretchen Pick. Guest performers include Gustavus alums Sarah Jabar ’10 and Ashleigh Penrod ’04, along with Eric Boone, Sarah Hauss, and Michelle Stutesman.
Maria Gomez Tierney has been choreographing, dancing and teaching in the Twin Cities since 1990. She received a B.A from the University of Minnesota and an M.F.A. from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Her dance work has been presented at many venues throughout the St. Paul and Minneapolis area. Tierney has directed Gomez Dance Group since 1998 and was a faculty member in the Gustavus Department of Theatre and Dance for nine seasons.
