Minneapolis-based Artaria String Quartet returns to the Minnesota Valley Sommarfest stage on July 21 to team with guest violist Charles Gray in this third performance of the summer classical music series. After opening the series with a program of works by Mozart, the quartet’s program this week includes Shostakovich and Tchaikovsky, along with Mozart. The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. in Bjorling Recital Hall on the Gustavus Adolphus College campus.
The Artaria String Quartet, now in its fourth season as the resident quartet for Minnesota Valley Sommarfest, returns to the stage with long-time members Ray Shows and Nancy Oliveros, violins, and Thomas Rosenberg, ‘cello. This quartet welcomes violist newcomer Annalee Wolf as it opens Thursday’s program with Dmitri Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 1, op. 49. With the addition of guest violist Charles Gray to complete a string quintet, the ensemble will present Mozart’s String Quintet in G minor, K. 516.. The quartet regroups for the concert finale and concludes the program with the Quartet in D major, op. 11, by Pyotr Tchaikovsky.
Tickets for this performance of Minnesota Valley Sommarfest may be reserved by calling the Sommarfest office at 507-933-7013 or may be purchased at the door, one hour prior to showtime. General admission tickets are $10 adults and $8 students and senior citizens. To encourage parents to bring their school-aged children to the concert, a $25 family ticket is also available.
