The Gustavus Artist Series presents its season finale concert Friday with a solo performance by piano virtuoso Teresa Walters. This March 3 recital begins at 8:00 p.m. in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall on the Gustavus Adolphus College campus and is supported with funding from a number of private benefactors and the college. Tickets are available at the Gustavus Ticket Center (507-933-7590) or at the door before the concert.
To say Teresa Walters is a rising star in the solo piano performance world is an understatement. The American pianist’s performances around the world have gained her critical acclaim with some music and recording critics claiming that she has “no competition,” especially with her outstanding performances of the works of Franz Liszt. She has presented performances (quite literally) across the world, including Lincoln Center and Moscow’s Great Hall, the Australian Conservatorium and Jerusalem’s Concert Hall, at celebrations throughout Hungary, and in concert in South Africa, South America, France, Romania, China and the Vatican. After her concert in Jerusalem, the Jerusalem Post described her performance as “Marvelous! As close to perfect as I hope to hear.”
For Walters’ performance at Gustavus, she has selected works by Lili Boulanger, Johannes Brahms, and George Gershwin. She will include two works by Franz Liszt, the Sonnet 123 del Petrarca and Benediction. The conclusion of her recital is Themes from Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor by Sergei Rachmaninov.
Tickets for Teresa Walters’ solo performance are available at the Gustavus Ticket Center at 507-933-7590 or can be purchased at the door. This finale concert for the 2005-06 Gustavus Artist Series is one that should not be missed.
