Engebretson to Present Faculty Saxophone Recital

Faculty member John Engebretson will present a saxophone recital in Jussi Björling Recital Hall on the Gustavus Adolphus College campus, Friday, November 2, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Assisting in this recital are pianist Esther Wang, guitarist Jim McGuire, bassist Rick Orpen and Andrew Haaheim on drums. The performance is free and open to the public

19th Annual Gustavus Honor Band Scheduled for Monday

The 19th annual Gustavus Honor Band Festival returns to the Gustavus Adolphus College campus Monday, November 5. The Festival Concert, conducted by Douglas Nimmo with the Gustavus Wind Orchestra and over 100 high school musicians from around the state, Iowa, Wisconsin and South Dakota, begins at 7:00 p.m. on Monday in Christ Chapel. The concert is free and open to the public.

Rare Ethnic Indonesian Gamelan Music and Dance Comes to Gustavus

The Department of Music at Gustavus offers a rare opportunity to hear, see and enjoy the ethnic Indonesian art of gamelan music and dance on Saturday, November 3. The performance by the Sumunar Gamelan and Dance Ensemble begins at 7:30 p.m. in Jussi Björling Recital Hall on the Gustavus campus. This performance is sponsored by the Ethel and Edgar Johnson Endowment for the Arts and is free to the public.

Gustavus Brings the Tragedy of columbinus to Anderson Theatre

With an eye to history as well as more recent events at Virginia Tech and in our own region, the Gustavus Adolphus College Department of Theatre and Dance will present columbinus in Anderson Theatre, October 25 - 28. Written by Stephen Karam and PJ Paparelli, and directed by Assistant Professor Theatre and Dance Henry MacCarthy, columbinus is based on the events leading up to, and including, the tragedy at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado on April 20, 1999.

Mankato Pianist David Viscoli to Present Guest Recital at Gustavus

Mankato pianist David Viscoli will present a guest recital in Jussi Björling Recital Hall on Friday, October 26, beginning at 7:30 p.m. The Minnesota State University, Mankato, Associate Professor will present works by Faure, Mozart, Rachmaninoff, Schubert and Liszt. This recital is free and open to the public.

Family Weekend Showcase Concert Set for Sunday at Gustavus Adolphus College

The Gustavus Department of Music's annual tradition of showcasing major ensembles continues this Sunday, October 14, with a performance for Family Weekend in Christ Chapel. The concert includes the Gustavus Choir, the Gustavus and Vasa Wind Orchestras, the Gustavus Symphony and Philharmonic Orchestras and the Lucia Singers and begins at 1:30 p.m. in Christ Chapel. The performance is free and open to the public.

Czech Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra to Perform at Gustavus

The Czech Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra, led by artistic director and founder Pavel Prantl, will appear in concert at Jussi Björling Recital Hall on Tuesday, October 16 at 8:00 p.m. This Gustavus Artist Series performance is part of the ensemble's 30th anniversary concert tour and includes two virtuoso performances by oboist Jana Brozkova and violinist Barbora Kolarova.
