The Czech Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra, led by artistic director and founder Pavel Prantl, will appear in concert at Jussi Björling Recital Hall on Tuesday, October 16 at 8:00 p.m. This Gustavus Artist Series performance is part of the ensemble’s 30th anniversary concert tour and includes two virtuoso performances by oboist Jana Brozkova and violinist Barbora Kolarova. The Czech Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra was founded in 1977 under the leadership of Artistic Director Pavel Prantl with colleagues of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, Prague’s most famous orchestra. Current CPCO membership includes performers from the Czech Philharmonic and the Prague Radio Symphony. Recent tours have included performances throughout Europe, Asia and North America. Its recordings have won the coveted Grand Prix du Disque and the ensemble’s appearances in film and television include Academy Award nominations for the film, Most (The Bridge), and the Great Performances PBS presentation of Gounod’s Romeo and Juliet.
Tuesday’s performance at Gustavus includes Suite for String Orchestra by Leo Janacek and Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 5 in A Major with Ms. Kolarova as soloist. The second half of the program opens with Tomaso Giovanni Albinoni’s Oboe Concerto in D Minor, Jana Brozkova, soloist and concludes with the Symphony No. 4 in F Major by Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf.
