The Gustavus Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of Brian Buckstead, will present Antonio Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons on Sunday, March 16, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall. Daniel Jacobsen, Amara Berthelsen, Rachel Dorr and Mark Wamma, members of the orchestra, will be featured as violin soloists. This performance is free and open to the public.

One of Vivaldi’s best known and often performed works, The Four Seasons is a set of four violin concertos celebrating the seasons of the year. The work opens with La Primavera (Spring) and soloist Daniel Jacobsen. L’Estate (Summer) with solist Amara Berthelsen and L’Autunno (Autumn) with soloist Rachel Dorr follow. The final concerto of the work, L’Inverno, concludes the performance led by soloist Mark Wamma.

Conductor Brian Buckstead is in his first year on the faculty at Gustavus. He holds degrees from St. Olaf College and the University of Wisconsin, Madison. In addition to conducting the Philharmonic, Buckstead gives private lessons to a full studio of Gustavus violinists. In January, he accompanied the Gustavus Symphony Orchestra and Conductor Warren Friesen as guest soloist on the symphony’s concert tour in the Peoples Republic of China.

Sunday’s performance of The Four Seasons begins at 7:00 in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall. It is free and open to the public.]]>
