Senior Voice Recitals Set for Weekend

Two Department of Music vocalists, Michelle Kolhoff and Christine Beatty, are scheduled to present their senior recitals in Bjorling Recital Hall on the Gustavus Adolphus College campus this weekend. Both sopranos have recitals scheduled at 3:30 p.m., with Michelle Kolhoff opening the weekend on May 10 and Christine Beatty set May 11. Both events are free and open to the public.

Anderson Theatre Season Concludes with Fefu & Her Friends

The Department of Theatre & Dance at Gustavus Adolphus College completes a successful 2007-08 season with Fefu & Her Friends, a look into the complexities of women's lives and relationships. Written by Maria Irene Fornes in 1977, this production of Fefu features a cast of eight diverse women brought together by director Amy Seham. Performances are May 8 - 10 at 8:00 p.m. and May 11 at 2:00 p.m. in Anderson Theatre.

Gustavus Symphony Orchestra to Present Concerto/Aria Concert Saturday

The Gustavus Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Conductor Warren Friesen, will present its spring concert Saturday, May 10, at 7:30 p.m. in Christ Chapel on the Gustavus Adolphus College campus. This concert includes performances by soprano Karly Slivik, 'cellist Jacqueline Johnson and bass trombonist Scott Simpkins, selected by audition to perform in the Department of Music's annual Concerto/Aria Concert.

Lucia Singers and St. Ansgar’s Chorus Share Sunday Schedule

The Lucia Singers and the St. Ansgar's Chorus, from the Department of Music at Gustavus Adolphus College, are scheduled for solo performances in Christ Chapel on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 11. The Lucia Singers (women's chorus) opens with Conductor Patricia Snapp at 1:30 p.m. Conductor Timothy O'Brien leads the men's chorus in a 7:30 p.m. performance in Christ Chapel. Both performances are free and open to the public.

Winds and Strings Present Joint Concert at Gustavus

Members of the Gustavus Philharmonic Orchestra and the Vasa Wind Orchestra will combine efforts to share a joint concert, May 9, on the Gustavus Adolphus College campus. Department of Music conductors Brian Buckstead and Douglas Nimmo will lead their respective ensembles in solo performances in the 7:30 p.m. concert in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall.

Gustavus Choir Home Concert Saturday

The Department of Music is pleased to present the Gustavus Choir's Home Concert, Saturday, May 3, at 7:30 p.m. in Christ Chapel. This concert features guest conductor Robert Scholz and concludes the choir's annual concert tour which included concerts throughout the Midwest.

Gustavus Honors Recital Set for Saturday

The Department of Music at Gustavus Adolphus College will present its annual senior Honors Recital on Saturday, May 3, beginning at 1:30 p.m. in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall. Selected by audition, six seniors will be performing in the recital, Jessica Gehrke, bassoon, Brian Fahey, baritone, Mark Wirbisky, viola, Rachel Braband, clarinet, Christa Saeger, 'cello and Joel Beachey, piano.

Adolphus Jazz Concert Features Jazz Quartet Friday

The Adolphus Jazz Ensemble of the Department of Music at Gustavus features the A Jazz Quartet in it spring concert Friday, May 2. The concert, directed by Steve Wright, begins at 7:30 p.m. in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall. It is free and open to the public.

Sunday Features Percussion and Recitals at Gustavus’ Bjorling Recital Hall

The Department of Music at Gustavus Adolphus College presents three events Sunday, May 4 in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall. The Gustaus Percussion Ensemble and Director Paul Hill opens the afternoon at 1:30 p.m., followed by Annika Torkelson's Senior Tuba Recital at 3:30 p.m. Senior pianist Joel Beachey concludes Sunday's schedule with his senior piano recital at 7:30 p.m.

Mike Vax Big Band Brings Stan Kenton Alumni to Gustavus

The Department of Music at Gustavus is pleased to present the Mike Vax Big Band (featuring alumni from the Stan Kenton Orchestra) in concert at Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall on the Gustavus Adolphus College campus, Thursday, May 1 at 7:30 p.m. This concert is the final event in an afternoon of clinics and demonstrations scheduled in Schaefer Fine Arts Center. Tickets for the evening concert are available by calling the Gustavus Ticket Center at 507-933-7590 or may be purchased at the door.
