Senior Voice Recitals Set for Weekend Posted on May 6th, 2008 by

Two Department of Music vocalists, Michelle Kolhoff and Christine Beatty, are scheduled to present their senior recitals in Bjorling Recital Hall on the Gustavus Adolphus College campus this weekend. Both sopranos have recitals scheduled at 3:30 p.m., with Michelle Kolhoff opening the weekend on May 10 and Christine Beatty set May 11. Both events are free and open to the public.

Michelle Kolhoff is a senior from Eagan, Minnesota, with a major in biology and minors in theatre and music. A 2004 graduate of Eagan High School, Michelle is the daughter of Heide and Dave Kolhoff. With accompanist Ian Zahren, she will open her recital with works by Handel, Gounod, Moore, and two works, Evening and The Lotus Bloom by John Jacob Niles. Michelle continues with two works by Franz Schubert before performing Green Finch and Linnet Bird by Stephen Sondheim, The Light in the Piazza by Adam Guettel and finishing with Mozart’s Durch Zarlichkeit und Schmeicheln. Michelle is a member of the Gustavus Choir and studies voice with Professor Christine Smith.

Soprano Christine Beatty is a 2004 graduate of Visitation High School in Eagan and the daughter of Richard and Kathryn Beatty. She is a student of Michael Jorgensen and a member of the Gustavus Choir with a major in vocal music performance. Accompanied by pianist Bonnie Jorgensen, Christine will open her Sunday afternoon recital with Handel’s Ombra mai fu, O Had I Jubal’s Lyre and Puccini’s O mio babbino caro. She continues with works by Dominick Argento, Gabriel Faure and Johannes Brahms. Christine will then be joined by seven fellow members of the Gustavus Choir to conclude her recital with vocal octet arrangements of James Taylor’s That Lonesome Road and In My Life by Paul McCartney and John Lennon.

Michelle Kolhoff’s senior recital is scheduled for 3:30, May 10 and Christine Beatty’s recital for 3:30 p.m., May 11. Both are free and open to the public.
