Pavia Winds in Concert at Gustavus

The Pavia Winds, one of the Midwest’s most exciting young chamber ensembles, will present a guest artists’ concert at Gustavus Adolphus College on Sunday, February 21 at 3:30 p.m. This performance is sponsored by the Department of Music and is presented free of charge in Bjorling Recital Hall.

The Pavia Winds is a wind quintet comprised of Emily Sapa, flute, Sara Carmack, oboe, Ryan Golden, clarinet, Gina Monge, horn and Justin Windschitl, bassoon. They are best known for their focus on contemporary compositions and have presented concerts and workshops throughout Minnesota, with a goal to encourage enthusiasm for chamber music of all kinds at all ages.

Pavia will open Sunday’s concert with Astor Piazzolla’s Libertango and John Harbison’s Quintet for Winds. Following intermission, the ensemble will present Pastoral, Opus 21 by Vincent Persichetti and the seven-movement Aires Tropicales by Paquito d’Rivera.

Sunday’s performance by the Pavia Winds is presented free of charge and begins at 3:30 p.m. in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall. A reception for the performers will follow the concert in the recital hall lobby.
