Trombone, Horn and Tuba Recitals Saturday

The Department of Music at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota, will present two senior recitals Saturday, April 17. Trombonist Tom Oelfke opens the afternoon schedule at 1:30 with pianist Brenda Moore. Kelsey Jentink, horn and Tom Liska, tuba, follow at 3:30 p.m. with pianists Brenda Moore and Beth Winterfeldt. The performances are free and open to the public.

Tom Oelfke is a senior, from Corcoran, Minnesota, with a major in biology (pre-veterinary) and minor in music. He is a 2006 graduate of Rockford High School and the son of Steven and Lisa Oelfke. For his senior recital, Tom has selected works for trombone and piano by Launy Grondahl and Arthur Pryor. He will be joined by bass trombonist Scott Simpkins for Dave Wilborn’s 8 Southern Jazz Duets and the Gustavus Trombone Quartet for Antikos Echoes.

The 3:30 recital opens with Tom Liska, a senior from Plymouth, Minnesota and the son of Greg and Mary Liska. Tom is a 2006 graduate of Robbinsdale Armstrong High School and will graduate in May with a major in history. Hornist Kelsey Jentink is a 2006 graduate of Apple Valley High School. She is a nursing major and music minor and is the daughter of Dale and Tess Jentink. This joint recital includes works by Paul Hindemith, Franz Strauss, Ralph Vaughan Williams and W. A. Mozart.

Both recitals are free and open to the public. A reception for the musicians will be held in the recital hall lobby following the recital.
