Spring concerts for the Gustavus Percussion Ensemble, Paul Hill, director and the Adolphus Jazz Ensemble, Steve Wright, director, set the stage for Sunday, April 25, at Gustavus Adolphus College. Both performances are scheduled in Jussi Björling Recital Hall with the percussion ensemble at 1:30 and jazz at 7:00 p.m. The performances are free and open to the public.
Director Paul Hill will lead the Gustavus Percussion Ensemble through its spring concert at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. The program includes a variety of works for a variety of instruments and numbers of performers. The program includes Sibelius’ Finlandia, Chopin’s Prelude Op. 28, Henry Cowell’s Pulse, Traumerei by Robert Schumann and Head Talk (For Drums Without Shells) by composer Mark Ford.
At 7:00 p.m., the Adolphus Jazz Ensemble and Director Steve Wright take the Bjorling stage for a spring jazz concert. The program for the A. Jazz showcases the variety of works known as jazz. It includes works by contemporary jazz composers like Jeff Jarvis, Dean Sorenson and Lance Strickland while featuring standards like Body and Soul by Heyman, Sour, Eyton and Green, Smack Dab in the Middle by Sammy Nestico and Moanin‘ by Charles Mingus.
Both concerts on Sunday in Bjorling Recital Hall are free and open to the public.
