As part of the College’s annual Honors Day celebration, Saturday, May 1, the Gustavus and Vasa Wind Orchestras, under the direction of Douglas Nimmo, will present their final concert of the season in Christ Chapel. This spring winds concert begins at 7:00 p.m. It is free and open to the public.
Completing his 23rd season as conductor of bands at Gustavus, Professor Douglas Nimmo will lead the two wind orchestras in this Honors Day concert. The Vasa Wind Orchestra opens with The Billboard March by John Klohr. The program continues with works by Samuel Hazo, Steve Rouse, Leroy Anderson and concludes with Alfred Reed’s The Music Makers.
The Gustavus Wind Orchestra finishes its international concert tour season with works by Philip Sparke, William Bolcom, Alberto Ginastera and others. The program includes Funeral March by Edvard Grieg, Molly on the Shore by Percy Grainger and Frank Ticheli’s “Apollo Unleashed” from Symphony No. 2.
Saturday’s Honors Day concert begins at 7:00 p.m. in Christ Chapel and is free and open to the public.
