Under the direction of Professor Robert Adney, the Percussion Ensemble from the Department of Music at Gustavus will present its fall concert on Sunday, November 14. This performance begins at 7:30 p.m. in Björling Recital Hall and is free and open to the public.
Sunday’s performance opens with Jaime Texidor’s Amparito Roco and the Argentiean Suite by Pablo Bagilet featuring Michael Larson on vibraphone. The program continues with Stephen Rush’s Mas Fuerte and a Jeff Moore arrangement of Dave Brubeck’s Blue Rondo a la Turk. The percussion ensemble concludes its performance with an arrangement by Thomas L. Davisa of Stompin’ Thru The Rye.
Bob Adney is a music educator/percussionist/timpanist and has been a part of the Twin Cities music community for 34 years. In that time he has played with virtually every musical organization in the area. He has a discography of over 22 cds performing with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra, Dale Warland Singers and the World Voices Choir. He begins his 4th year as associate principal timpanist with the South Dakota Symphony, during the summers he is the timpanist for the Minneapolis Pops Orchestra. In addition he is a founding member of the Minnesota Percussion Trio. This group has played in over 800 schools and continues to play throughout Minnesota and western Wisconsin. Adney teaches at Gustavus and the MacPhail Center for Music.
Sunday’s percussion concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in Jussi Björling Recital Hall. It is free and open to the public.
