Following their successful winter concert tours, the Gustavus Wind Orchestra and Gustavus Choir return to the campus to present their annual Home Concerts on Saturday, February 12. The Wind Orchestra and Conductor Douglas Nimmo open the afternoon at 2:00 p.m. followed by the Gustavus Choir and Conductor Gregory Aune at 7:30 p.m. Both Home Concerts will be presented in Christ Chapel and are free and open to the public.
The Gustavus Wind Orchestra completed an 8-day Midwest tour and presented concerts, clinics and workshops in Brainerd and Duluth, Minnesota, Wausau, Appleton, Hartford and Middleton, Wisconsin before returning to Minnesota for their final concert in Owatonna. Included in their program were works by Percy Grainger, Warren Benson, William Schuman, Eric Whitacre, John Philip Sousa, Roger Cichy, Paul Creston and others. This home concert begins at 2:00 p.m. in Christ Chapel.
The Gustavus Choir, fresh off its international concert tour to sites in Italy, opens its home concert in Christ Chapel at 7:30 p.m. The 16-day tour included concerts in Sorrento, Assisi, Florence, Venice and in Rome at mass in St. Peter’s Basilica and at the Basilica di Santa Maria in Trastevere. A partial list of the composers in the program includes Charles Stanford, Z. Randall Stroope, Joan Szymko, Johannes Brahms, Felix Mendelssohn, Ola Gjeilo, Antonio Lotti, F. Melius Christiansen and Maurice Durufle.
Join the Gustavus community in welcoming the return of the Gustavus Choir (7:30 p.m.) and the Gustavus Wind Orchestra (2:00 p.m.) on Saturday, February 12 in Christ Chapel. Both performances are free and open to the public.
