An annual Family Weekend event at Gustavus will be presented on Sunday, October 16 at 2:00 p.m. in Christ Chapel. As a part of the weekend’s festivities, the Department of Music will present its Fall Showcase Concert. The concert will feature the work of over 300 student musicians and includes performances by the Gustavus Choir, the Gustavus Symphony Orchestra, the Lucia Singers and the Gustavus and Vasa Wind Orchestras. Although the event is part of Family Weekend, it is free and open to the public.
Sunday’s Showcase will open with the Gustavus Choir and Conductor Gregory Aune, followed by the Gustavus Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Ruth Lin. First-year Conductor Karrin Meffert-Nelson then brings the Vasa Wind Orchestra to the stage for her first major performance with the ensemble, followed by the Lucia Singers let by another first-year conductor, Brandon Dean. Sunday’s concert concludes with the Gustavus Wind Orchestra conducted by Douglas Nimmo.
The Family Weekend Showcase Concert begins at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 16 in Christ Chapel. The performance is free and open to the public.
