Rob Berdahl ’90 Captains Guthrie Theatre’s H.M.S. Pinafore

As Gilbert and Sullivan's H.M.S. Pinafore drops anchor on the Guthrie Theatre Stage June 18 - August 28, 2011, she will be captained by Twin Cities actor/vocalist Robert O. Berdahl '90. Guthrie Artistic Director Joe Dowling directs this splash hit musical which features Berdahl as Captain Corcoran and Christina Baldwin as Little Buttercup. Pinafore opens on June 24 and continues through August 28, 2011, on the Wurtele Thrust Stage. Erin Belpedio ’11 Lighting Footloose

Lighting Designer Erin Belpedio '11, honored for her work by the United States Institute for Theatre Technology in 2010, is living proof that the show must go on. Instead of resting on her past honors and taking a well-deserved rest following graduation in May, Belpedio is back in the booth at the Anoka (Minnesota) Lyric Arts Main Street Stage working as the Assistant Lighting Designer for the musical Footloose with Designer Dan Thorson and Director Matthew McNabb. When Footloose opens and the lights go up on July 15, Erin's "fingerprints" will be all over the production.

Stacey Lindell ’00 in Broadway Musical

Stacey Lindell, a 2000 graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College, is starring in the Minneapolis premiere of the Broadway musical Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. The show will be performed by the Minneapolis Musical Theatre (MMT), at the Illusion Theatre on the eighth floor of the Hennepin Center for the Arts, June 10-26.

Violinist Taylor Frey ’14 Featured in Fairbanks News

It was only natural Taylor and Kendra Frey would be introduced to classical music at an early age. The daughters of two classical musicians, teacher Sheryl Frey and the late John Frey, they began learning the violin as preschoolers.

Huff Wins Playwrighting Award

Doug Huff, Professor of Philosophy at Gustavus Adolphus College, was recently named the winner of the 2010 Hidden River Arts Playwrighting Award for his play A Far Shore. For winning the award, Huff will receive a monetary award, the manuscript of A Far Shore will be published by Hidden River Arts, and the play will receive a reading in Philadelphia in the fall of 2011.

Gustavus Hosts Minnesota All-Lutheran Choir

The 40-voice Minnesota All-State Lutheran Choir will perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 24 in Christ Chapel on the campus of Gustavus Adolphus College. The concert is free and open to the public. A free-will offering will be collected.

Alumni & Faculty in Chanhassen’s Superstar

Beginning in March and running through July 30, Minnesota's Chanhassen Dinner Theatre is presenting Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's classic '70s rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar. Among the large cast on stage and in the opera's band are Gustavus graduates Nickie Kromminga '98 and Chad M. Anderson '08. Adjunct professor of music Paul Hill is the percussionist for performances in March and April.

Gomez Dance Group ‘Reunions’ Includes Gustie Alumni

Gomez Dance Group will present Reunions - a show that reunites past and present company members for a concert with tremendous range of physicality and emotion at Patrick's Cabaret in Minneapolis, June 3 & 4 at 8:00 p.m. Artistic Director Maria Gomez Tierney, former member of the Gustavus Department of Theatre & Dance, has invited former company members Sarah Hauss and Eric Boone back for the performance, along with dance alumni from Gustavus who studied with Gomez Tierney between 1998 and 2007.
