The Department of Music at Gustavus Adolphus College is pleased to present Daniel Olson’s senior voice and piano recital. The concert will take place on Saturday, April 13 at 3:30 p.m. in Bjorling Recital Hall. Admission is free and the performance is open to the public.
Daniel Olson is a music education major from Madelia, Minnesota. He is the son of Gerald and Peggy Olson and a 2009 graduate of Madelia High School. He currently studies voice with Dr. Jeffrey Hass and piano with Dr. Yumiko Oshima-Ryan and is a member of Gustavus Choir, G-Sharp, and a bluegrass band Vintage Prairie Dirt. For this concert, he will be accompanied by pianist Julie Sweet.
For the performance on Saturday, Daniel will begin with If With All Your Hearts, written by Elijah Felix Mendelssohn. The concert continues with Gerald Finzi’s Fear no more the heat o’ the sun and works from Leonard Bernstein’s Mass, Franz Schubert’s Die schöne Müllerin and Robert Schumann’s Dichterliebe. Moving to the piano, Daniel will continue with Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 25 in G major, Op. 79 and Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Prelude in G minor, Op. 23, No. 5. The concert will conclude with Ombra mai fu from Serse by George Frideric Handel, Maury Yeston’s The Proposal and Irving Berlin’s Anything You Can Do, assisted by vocalist Madeline Cacciatore.
