Spring Student Recitals Open Saturday with Violist Karin Dye

10387093_10153052418707221_6998563729756058381_oA busy spring semester of student recitals opens on Saturday, March 14 at 3:30 p.m. with Violist Karin Dye’s student recital. Ms. Dye will be accompanied by pianist Beth Winterfeldt and assisted by a number of string players from the Gustavus Symphony Orchestra. This recital is free and open to the public.

Karin Dye is a junior from the Chesterfield suburb of St. Louis, Missouri. She is a music education major and a member of the Gustavus Symphony Orchestra where she is the principal violist. Karin, a 2012 graduate of Parkway West High School, is the daughter of Kristin and John Dye. She holds both a Jussi Björling Music Scholarship and a Gustavus Music Award.

This recital will open with Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 6 in Bb Major. Karin will be joined by 3 Gustavus Symphony violists, 1 cellist and 1 bassist for the first movement, “Allegro,” from the concerto. With the accompaniment of pianist Beth Winterfeldt, Karin will continue with Max Bruch’s Romaze für Bratsche und Orchestrer, Op. 85, followed by the Sonata for Viola and Piano by Rebecca Clarke. The final selection of the recital will bring violinist Kendra Frey and violist Karin Dye to the stage to perform the Passacaglia Duo for Violin and Viola after G.F. Handel’s Suite No. 7 in G minor for Harpsichord by Johan Halvorsen.

Karin Dye’s Junior Viola Recital will begin at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 14 in Jussi Björling Recital Hall. This performance is open to the public. A reception for the musicians will follow in the recital hall lobby.
