The coming weekend in the Department of Music at Gustavus Adolphus College will be a busy one with a home tour concert, guest and faculty recitals, and student recitals on Sunday, April 10 by flutist Beige McConaughey at 3:30 p.m. in Jussi Björling Recital Hall and an organ recital by Zachary Anderson in Christ Chapel at 7:30 p.m. All five events are free and open to the public.
Beige McConaughy is a junior music major from Somerset, Wisconsin. She is a student of James DeVoll and is a member of the Vasa Wind Orchestra and the Lucia Singers. She will be accompanied in her recital by pianist Bonnie Jorgensen and will open the 3:30 p.m. recital with J. S. Bach’s Sonata No. 3 in A Major, S. 1032, followed by Ernest Bloch’s 4-movement Suite Modale. The final work on the program is Émile Pessard’s Bolero, Op. 28, No. 2.
Organist Zachary Anderson will present his junior recital in Christ Chapel at 7:30 p.m. Zach is a music education major and a member of the Gustavus Wind Orchestra, the Gustavus Jazz Lab Band, the Brass Choir and the Trombone Choir. He is a 2013 graduate of Maple Grove High School and studies privately with Dr. Chad Winterfeldt. Zach will open his recital with J. S. Bach’s Prelude and Fugue in G. Major, BWV 541 followed by 2 movements of Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Three Preludes Founded on Three Welsh Hymn Tunes for Organ. He will continue with the Paul Manz setting of the Partita on St. Anne, Op. 6 by William Croft, and conclude the recital with Charles-Marie Widor’s Symphony No. 5 for Organ.
As with all student recitals at Gustavus, both events will be presented at no charge and the public is cordially invited to attend. The recitals will be followed by receptions honoring the recitalists.
