Another weekend filled with recitals and concerts is in store for the Gustavus campus and Jussi Björling Recital Hall. Beginning with a joint trombone and tuba recital on Friday and running through a voice recital on Sunday night, the weekend will include flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, euphonium, double bass, and percussion performances. All of the events will be presented in Jussi Björling Recital Hall and are free and open to the public.
- Friday, April 29, 7:30 p.m., joint recital by Joshua Mason, trombone and Joseph Wiley, tuba. This recital will include selections for solo trombone and tuba, along with the final work, Amalgamating Style, written by Joshua Mason and performed by the Gustavus Jazztet.
- Saturday, April 30, 1:30 p.m., senior recital by Danielle Fulghum, clarinet & bass clarinet. Danielle will be accompanied by pianist Szu-Ling Wu to present Saint-Saens, Kovacs, Milhaud, Desportes and Lew Pollack’s That’s A Plenty, for clarinet quartet.
- Saturday, April 30, 3:30 p.m., senior recital by Erin Grev, flute. With pianist Ben Marti, Erin will perform works by Beethoven, Molique, Prokofiev, Doppler and Schocker.
- Saturday, April 30, 7:30 p.m., senior recital by Connor Dufault, double bass and composition. Connor will be assisted by a number of Gustavus student musicians to perform his arrangements of works by Wayne Shorter and Thad Jones, and three of his own compositions: There’s a Good Reason, Probably; Invasion…..; and Prelude No. 4 2/3 in F Double-Sharp Minor.
- Sunday. May 1, 1:30 p.m., spring concert by the Gustavus Percussion Ensemble, Paul Hill, director. This annual favorite will showcase the ensemble in works by Séjourné, Cole, Živković, Cole and Rush.
- Sunday, May 1, 3:30 p.m., senior recital by Iain McCrory, euphonium. Iain will present his senior recital with pianist Szu-Ling Wu and perform works by Sparke, De Vita, Plog, Verhelst and Ferdinand David before concluding with a brass septet of the Mnozil Brass arrangement of Lonely Boy.
- Sunday, May 1, 7:30 p.m., senior recital by Chase Fasbender, baritone. For the final recital of the weekend, Chase will be accompanied by pianist Bonnie Jorgensen to perform Madamina from Mozart’s Don Giovanni, three songe by Ernest Chausson, Winterreise by Franz Schubert and C’est Moi from Lerner & Loewe’s Camelot.
Each of these events will be presented at no charge. Tickets are not required. Following each student recital, a reception will be held in the recital hall lobby.
