The St. Ansgar’s Mens Chorus and the Gustavus Chambers Singers, both under the direction of Rod Urtel, combine talents for a joint spring concert on Friday, April 30, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Jussi Björling Recital Hall. This performance is free and open to the public.
The St. Ansgar’s Chorus opens the evening performance with Haydn’s Glorious Things of Thee are Spoken and continue with works by J.S. Bach, Andre J.Thomas, and Felix Mendelssohn. The chorus concludes its half of the concert with O Captain! My Captain! by Walt Whitman and John Leavitt and the traditional American spiritual, Wade in The Water.
The twelve-member Gustavus Chamber Singers will present a mixed program of popular, Broadway musical and jazz standards including Lullaby of Birdland, Over the Rainbow, Besame Mucho, Bridge Over Troubled Waters and others. For a part of the performance they will be accompanied by a jazz combo of Logan Burnside, saxophone, Will Grant, bass, Chris Brawner, drums and Sean Prichard, piano.
Friday’s joint concert by the St. Ansgar’s Chorus and the Gustavus Chamber Singers and directed by Rod Urtel begins at 7:30 p.m. in Björling Recital Hall. The performance is free and open to the public.
