Sunday, October 9 brings the Melius Trio and Gustavus pianist Esther Wang to the Gustavus campus as a guest of the Department of Music. The Trio’s performance begins at 7:30 p.m. and will be presented in Jussi Björling Recital Hall. The Trio appears as guest artists of the department. The performance is free and open to the public.
The Melius Trio includes violinist Charles Gray, cellist David Carter and (for this performance) guest pianist Esther Wang. Founded in 1988, the trio has appeared as soloists with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra in Beethoven’s Triple Concerto and this month they also appear at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester and in three concerts in the Chicago area.
Sunday’s performance opens with Beethoven’s Piano Trio in C minor, followed by the Duo for Viola and ‘Cello by Walter Piston. The concert concludes with the Trio in F minor by Antonin Dvorak.
