The Department of Music at Gustavus Adolphus College will present a combined concert of its men’s and women’s choruses on Saturday, May 12 at 7:30 p.m. in Christ Chapel on the Gustavus campus. The Lucia Singers women’s chorus and the St. Ansgar’s men’s chorus, under the direction of Brandon Dean, will be assisted by pianists Nicole Wamma and Beth Winterfeldt and organist Karl Grant for this performance. The event is open to the public at no charge.
Saturday’s combined concert will feature works for both ensembles, combined ensembles, soloists from each ensemble, congregational hymns and selections assisted by an assortment of percussion and guitar. The program includes standard works such as Kenneth Jennings’ Rise Up, O Men of God, the hymns Be Thou My Vision and Come Thou Font of Every Blessing, Randall Stroope’s Lux Aeterna, and Agneta Skold’s Sanctus, along with traditional American folk hymns We’ll Shout and Give Him Glory and What Wondrous Love. In addition, the two ensembles will perform contemporary works by Wilbur Chenoweth, Eric Whitacre and Andrea Ramsey, and traditional works from Venezuela and Zambia.
Saturday evening’s concert in Christ Chapel begins at 7:30 p.m. It is directed by first-year conductor Brandon Dean. The performance by the Lucia Singers and the St. Ansgar’s Chorus is open to the public at no charge.
