The Department of Theatre and Dance at Gustavus Adolphus College is pleased to open its 2012-2013 season with the contemporary dark comedy Behold the Coach, In a Blazer, Uninsured (and Other Good Intentions), a collection of five short plays written by Will Eno and directed by Henry McCarthy. Performances of Behold the Coach will be presented in Anderson Theatre October 25-27 at 8:00 p.m. and October 28 at 2:00 p.m. Following the October 27 performance, Professors Sean Cobb and Martin Lang will lead a discussion exploring themes raised by the plays. Tickets for all four performances are available online at www.gustavustickets.com or by calling the Gustavus Ticket Center at (507) 933-7590. Tickets remaining unsold on the day of the performance will go on sale at Anderson Theatre box office one hour prior to showtime.

Behold the Coach, In a Blazer, Uninsured (and Other Good Intentions) is a collection of five short plays by Will Eno which include Behold the Coach, In a Blazer, Uninsured; along with Ladies and Gentlemen, The Rain; Enter the Spokeswoman, Gently; The Bully Composition and Oh, the Humanity. Originally published in 2008 under the title Oh, the Humanity and Other Good Intentions, each play is a brief glance into a moment that is a part of that character’s life and should be well-scripted. However, in each of these five plays, the character steps outside of the conventional norms of the situation, bridging together real life and moments of spectacle. The resulting conversations are both confusing, revealing, funny and profoundly human.

Approximately fifty Gustavus students are involved in Behold the Coach, In a Blazer, Uninsured, including a 15-person cast and recent graduate Renee Guitar ’12 (Dance Honors) who choreographed last year’s musical Assassins. Henry MacCarthy is directing the production with set and lighting design by Micah Maatman, costume design by Larissa McConnell and sound design by Terena Wilkens.

Tickets for Behold the Coach, In a Blazer, Uninsured (and Other Good Intentions) are available on-line at www.gustavustickets.com or by calling the Gustavus Ticket Center at (507) 933-7590. Admission is free for Gustavus students and staff with ID. Tickets not purchased in advance may be purchased at the Anderson Theatre Box Office beginning one hour prior to curtain.
