The Department of Music at Gustavus Adolphus College is pleased to welcome The Hot Dish Trio to the campus on Sunday, March 3, for a performance in Jussi Björling Recital Hall at 7:00 p.m. With assistant professor of music Karrin Meffert-Nelson, clarinet joined by violinist Leslie Shank and pianist Susan Billmeyer, this performance is free and open to the public.
Although the members of the trio come from different backgrounds, they all bring extensive performance experience to the Björling stage. Violinist Leslie Shank leads an active musical life as a soloist and chamber musician. She has been a member of the St Paul Chamber Orchestra for 29 years, 24 as assistant concertmaster. Leslie earned both a Bachelor and Master of Music degree from The Juilliard School. Assistant Professor of Music Karrin Meffert-Nelson teaches clarinet, chamber music, conduts the Vasa Wind Orchestra, and teaches courses in music education and music history at Gustavus. In addition to her DMA degree in Clarinet Performance from the University of Minnesota, she holds the MM degree in Clarinet Performance from Northwestern University in Evantston, IL and the BM degree in Clarinet Performance and Music Education from St. Olaf College. Susan Billmeyer has performed throughout the U.S. as a recitalist and collaborative pianist, and is in constant demand as a chamber musician. Billmeyer performs regularly with the Minnesota Orchestra and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. Susan holds degrees from Oberlin Conservatory, Indiana University, and the University of Minnesota.
Sunday’s concert by The Hot Dish Trio will open with Robert Schumann’s Fairy Tales, Op. 132, followed with four movements of Max Bruch’s Eight Pieces for Clarinet, Viola and Piano. The concert will conclude with Paul Schoenfield’s Trio for Clarinet, Violin and Piano in four movements.
Without an attempt to explain the origin of the trio’s name, the Department of Music at Gustavus is pleased to bring The Hot Dish Trio to the Björling stage on Sunday, March 3 at 7:00 p.m. The performance is free and open to the public.
