Spring Jazz Concert Saturday

The Adolphus Jazz Ensemble and the Gustavus Jazz Lab Band, under the direction of Steve Wright, will join forces on Saturday, April 13 to present their combined spring concert for 2013. The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Jussi Björling Recital Hall on the Gustavus Adolphus College campus and is free and open to the public.

The Adolphus Jazz Ensemble will open the concert with one of Director Steve Wright’s composition, GAC Blues, followed by works by Herb Brown, Billie Hollday & Nat Adderly before concluding the first half with Maiden Voyage by Herbie Hancock and The Buckethead Shuffle by Tony Guerrero.

The Gustavus Jazz Lab Band will open the second half with Sammy Nestico’s A New Day! and a Sammy Nestico arrangement of Jerome Kern’s Look for the Silver Lining. They will continue with Antonio Carlos Jobim’s Agua de Beber, It’s a Heavy Town by Donald Byrd and Calypsoscope by Matt Harris.

The evening’s performance finishes with John Fedchock’s Blues for Red, Django by John Lewis and Mike Tomaro’s Later That Same Day.

Saturday’s concert by the Department of Music’s jazz ensembles, let by Director Steve Wright, will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Jussi Björling Recital Hall. The performance is free and open to the public.
