The Department of Music at Gustavus is pleased to present flutist Antonio Herbert in his senior recital on Sunday, May 5, at 1:30 p.m. in Björling Recital Hall on the Gustavus Adolphus College campus. For his final recital at Gustavus, Antonio will be accompanied by pianist Beth Winterfeldt. The recital is free and open to the public.
Antonio Herbert is a philosophy major from Kissimmee, Florida. He is the son of Betty and Loide R. Rowland and a 2009 graduate of the Osceola County School for the Arts. Herbert is the recipient of a Gustavus Music Award, was selected by audition to perform in the 2011-12 Concerto/Aria Competition concert and the 2013 Senior Honors Recital, and studies with Barbara Leibundguth. He is principal flutist of the Gustavus Wind Orchestra and the Gustavus Symphony Orchestra. In addition to playing the flute, he enjoys spending much of his time out doors, playing jazz flute, and reading philosophy.
This recital opens with Aaron Copland’s Duo for flute and piano, followed by Serenade for Flute and Piano by Howard Hanson, Concerto for Flute and Orchestra by Jacques Ibert, and Triple Treat by Nestor Torres. Herbert’s jazz flute quartet, ‘Perfect Four’ will join in the final number of the program, Triple Threat, composed by friend and renowned Latin Grammy Award-winning flutist Nestor Torres.
