The Gustavus Adolphus College Department of Music is pleased to present duoARtia in concert as part of their 2013 fall tour. Pianists Jeri-Mae Astolfi and Holly Roadfeldt, both avid supporters of contemporary music, will perform in a duo-piano recital on Saturday, November 16 at 1:30 p.m. in Bjorling Recital Hall on the Gustavus campus. Admission is free and open to all.

Jeri-Mae Astolfi and Holly Roadfeldt have both performed in solo recitals and released solo albums for over two decades. Their collaboration, duoARtia, was formed in 2011, which both artists viewed as an opportunity to further explore contemporary music. The pair works closely with modern composers, such as James Leatherbarros and Ed Martin. Jeri-Mae Astolfi is a performer in the Wisconsin Soundscapes and is a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Holly Roadfeldt has released over 70 solo and chamber pieces and has a work on Kirk O’Riordan’s album, which will be released on November 19, 2013.

The Gustavus concert will begin with Béla Bartók’s “Seven Pieces from Mikrokosmos.” The recital will continue with “The Universal Prayer,” a selection by James Wilding, and “Aprés Rameau,” a work by Yehuda Yannay. The duo will continue with the performance of James Leatherbarrow’s “Charon the Ferryman,” which was composed specifically for duoARtia. The first half of the concert will finish with Josephy Koykkar’s “Keyboard Dances.”

Following intermission, duoARtia will begin with the performance of “Deep Blue Ocean,” composed by Robert Paterson. This will be followed by Ed Martin’s work “Shadow Dance,” which was also composed specifically to be performed by duoARtia.  The concert will conclude with one of Kirk O’Riordan’s pieces “Humming Spheres,” as well as “Paganini Variations,” composed by Witold Lutoslawski.
