Instrumental, Voice & Piano Recitals Set for this Weekend

The Gustavus Department of Music is gearing up for the busy student recital season with three recitals this weekend. These recitals showcase the variety and talent of the young musicians studying in the Department of Music. The events are open to the public at no charge. A reception for the recitalists will follow each recital in the lobby of Jussi Björling Recital Hall.

  • Saturday, April 11, 3:30 p.m., Laura Johnson, clarinet & Rebecca Ihnen, oboe, will present their combined junior recital in Björling Recital Hall. Ms. Johnson is a music education major from Roseville who studies clarinet with Dr. Karrin Meffert-Nelson. Rebecca Ihnen is a junior music major with minors in arts administration and communication studies. She is a native of Des Moines and studies oboe at Gustavus with Sarah Erickson Lume. They will be accompanied by pianist Beth Winterfeldt.
  • Sunday, April 12, 3:30 p.m., Eric Pothen, baritone & piano, is a senior music education major from Mounds View, Minn. Eric studies voice with Dr. Michael Jorgensen and piano with Dr. Esther Wang. He will be accompanied in this recital by pianist Bonnie Jorgensen and assisted by a number of Gustavus student musicians including the members of G-Sharp for his senior recital.
  • Sunday, April 12, 7:30 p.m., Gabrielle Gazzola, piano, will present her senior piano recital in Björling Recital Hall. She is a student of Dr. Esther Wang with a major in psychological science and a minor in music. Gabe is from Woodbury, Minn., and will be assisted by Anthony Afful, oboe, Katie Landreville, bassoon and Jacob Fry, piano in this recital.

The student recital this weekend by Laura Johnson, clarinet; Rebecca Ihnen, oboe; Eric Pothen, baritone and piano; and Gabrielle Gazzola, piano, will be presented in Jussi Björling Recital Hall. The events are free and open to the public.
