Concert organist James Hicks will present a recital of organ music from Scandinavia on Saturday, February 18 at 7:30 p.m. in Christ Chapel on the campus of Gustavus Adolphus College. Tickets are not required for this recital.
Mr. Hicks has recently embarked upon a project titled Nordic Journey, through which he seeks to perform, commission, and record music from Scandinavia. The series seeks to create new repertoire from Nordic lands (seventeen commissioned works thus far), rediscover unpublished and/or forgotten works from the twentieth century, and incorporate a few of the standard masterworks. Over the past seven years, Hicks has recorded six volumes for Nordic Journey spanning nine CDs. This program will feature music from that project. Mr. Hicks holds degrees from Yale and the Cincinnati Conservatory and is currently living in New Jersey. For more information, see www.jameshicks.com.
Admission is free but the audience will have the opportunity to make a contribution which will be directed toward the two-year fundraising drive Mr. Hicks has started in support of cystic fibrosis research. More information about the fundraiser can be found at hicksnordichike.com.
