Leibundguth Flute Recital Set for Monday

The Department of Music at Gustavus Adolphus College is pleased to present a Faculty Flute Recital by Professor Barbara Leibundguth on Monday, February 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the Jussi Björling Recital Hall on the Gustavus campus. Ms. Leibundguth will be accompanied by pianist Beth Winterfeldt and contrabassoonist Norbert Nielubowski. Admission to the performance is free and it is open to the public.

Barbara Leibundguth is in her ninth year as the adjunct flute instructor at Gustavus. She has performed as principal flutist with major orchestras in Boston, Dallas, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, Houston, and San Francisco, and was a member of the Minnesota Orchestra for twenty years, including fourteen as co-principal. She was also principal flute of the Omaha Symphony and Opera/Omaha for eleven years, and has attended the Marlboro, Grand Teton, and Blossom summer music festivals. A Chicago native, she is a graduate of Northwestern University, where she studied with Walfrid Kujala of the Chicago Symphony. Leibundguth also studied with legendary French flutist Marcel Moyse for seven years, in the US and Europe.

This faculty recital will open with the Cantabile and Presto by Georges Enesco, and the four movements of Bach’s Sonata in e minor, BWV 1034. Contrabassoonist Norbert Nielubowski will then join her on stage to perform Bachianas Brasileiras No. 6, for flute and bassoon by Heitor Villa-Lobo. Ms. Leibundguth will continue with Erwin Schulhoff’s Sonata, and conclude her recital with Frank Martin’s Ballade.

Monday’s faculty recital by Gustavus flutist Barbara Leibundguth, contrabassoonist Norbert Nielubowski and pianist Beth Winterfeldt will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Jussi Björling Recital Hall on the Gustavus campus. The performance will be performed free. Tickets are not required.
