On Friday, April 21, the Gustavus Jazz Ensemble will embark on a mini-tour with two performances over the weekend. On Friday the 21 the ensemble will perform at the Eau Claire Jazz Festival at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire. On Saturday the 22 at 1:00 p.m., the ensemble will perform at Crooners Supper Club in Minneapolis.
The Gustavus Jazz Ensemble, known by its supporters and friends as G-Jazz is the premier 21-member concert jazz ensemble at Gustavus Adolphus College. Under the direction of Dr. Dave Stamps, GJAZZ prides itself on its reputation for performing a multifaceted repertoire of classic big-band compositions, as well as arrangements from today’s most cutting-edge jazz composers.
G-Jazz is eagerly looking forward to both of their performances in Eau Claire and Minneapolis. This is the first time since 2015 that the ensemble will perform at the Eau Claire Jazz Festival. Back in 2015, G-Jazz won the College Big Band Division at the prestigious festival. Although they are not competing this year, the ensemble is incredibly excited to perform at such a high-profile festival.
This is the second consecutive year that G-Jazz has had the opportunity to perform at Crooners Supper Club. Opened in November 2014 by husband and wife Larry Dunsmore and Mary Tjosvold, Crooners Supper Club focuses on providing guests with the atmosphere of the classic American nightclub. Taking inspiration from the days when people got dressed up to go out and hear top-notch live music, Crooners welcomes guests with irresistible and elegant ambiance.
G-Jazz will be performing at Crooners’ MainStage, one of the most treasured concert spaces in the Midwest region, at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 22. Tickets to the performance are required and cost between $15 and $25 dollars depending on the seating. Tickets can be purchased at https://www.eventbrite.com/o/crooners-supper-club-17975642816
