This week features the student recitals of Jessica Mendez-Robles, Alex Blegen, Mikayla Bohner, Dana Howell, Moriah Jensen, and Elyse Doeden, as well as a Bass Workshop performance, a Brassworks! concert, and the closing of the current Hillstrom Museum exhibitions.

The Gustavus Fine Arts Office, Arboretum, and Zeitgeist are proud to present A Murmur in the Trees, an Earth Day recital celebration of double bass solos and ensembles concluding with Eve Beglarian’s A Murmur in the Trees for 24 Basses in the Gustavus Arboretum. Featuring guest and faculty bassists Kristen Bruya, Volkan Orhan, Nick Gaudette, and Rolf Erdahl. The performance will start at 4:00 p.m. in Bjorling and it will finish outside in the Arboretum.

African American artist Elizabeth Catlett (1915-2012) is considered through recently acquired works and through new poetry by exhibition collaborator Philip Bryant, a faculty member in the African/African Diaspora Studies Program and the English Department of Gustavus Adolphus College. Catlett’s artworks and Bryant’s poetry are supplemented by paintings by Catlett’s contemporaries Jacob Lawrence (1917-2000) and Eldzier Corter (1916-2015), lent by the Art Bridges Foundation of Bentonville, Arkansas.
