Under the direction of Patricia Kazarow, the Choir of Christ Chapel returns from its spring concert tour to present its home concert in Christ Chapel, Friday, April 27 at 7:30 p.m. “American Sings,” the theme for this spring’s concert, begins at 7:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
For more than 40 years, the Choir of Christ Chapel has been at the intersection of the college academy and the college’s worship community. It draws its repertoire from the finest sacred literature of the mid-18th to 21st centuries, chosen to intensify the experience of the liturigical feast or worship event. The students in the choir represent as diverse a group as the literature they perform, but they share a common goal of singing to allow those who listen the opportunity to experience music as a powerful spiritual medium for personal growth and transformation.
The Choir’s program includes such traditional as Kenneth Jennings’, With a Voice of Singing, Samuel Barber’s variations on A Wondrous Love, and Alice Parker’s arrangement of Hark, I Hear the Harp’s Eternal. New works by William Beckstrand, Eric Whitacre and Moses Hogan’s Joshua Fit the Battle are some of the selections which fill out the program.
The Choir of Christ Chapel is led by Patricia Kazarow who joined the Christ Chapel and Department of Music in 1984. In addition to her work at Gustavus as a conductor, organist and instructor, she is currently researching and writing a book titled Choral Conducting: Rehearsal Techniques and serves as the artistic director of music and conductor of the Prairie Arts Chorale in southwestern Minnesota.
Friday’s Home Concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in Christ Chapel. Tickets are not required.
