KSTP Anchor John Mason to Narrate Nobel Concert Tuesday

John Mason, Anchor, KSTP-TV, will narrate the 2007 Nobel Conference Concert, Tuesday, October 2, beginning at 8:00 p.m. in Christ Chapel. The concert, matching the energy theme of the annual Nobel Conference, will feature a 1956 industrial cartoon titled "Energetically Yours" and funded by Standard Oil Company of New Jersey. Mason will narrate the film with music provided by the Gustavus Symphony Orchestra and conductor Warren Friesen. The Gustavus Choir and two quartets will also participate.

Gustavus Symphony Orchestra to Present Season Finale Saturday

The Gustavus Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Warren Friesen, will present the Gustavus Adolphus College Department of Music's season finale, Saturday, May 26, beginning at 8:00 p.m. in Christ Chapel. This final performance includes solo performances by three concerto competition winners, Christopher Fogderud, trumpet, Katherine Johns, saxophone and Justin Schramm, marimba. The public is cordially invited to attend this finale concert.

The two ensembles, under the direction of Warren Friesen, will present this concert in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall beginning at 1:30 p.m.

Nobel Concert Expands on the Conference’s Medicine Theme

The annual Nobel Conference Concert takes this year's theme of "Medicine: Prescription for Tomorrow" and expands it to include musical references in history. The program includes the "Transformation" scene from the Jekyll and Hyde musical to tunes for patents medicines to a premiere of a symphonic score for the first horror film ever filmed, Thomas Edison's Frankenstein from 1910. This performance begins at 8:00 p.m. in Christ Chapel, Tuesday, October 3. The event is free and open to the pubic.

Winds and Symphony Orchestras Combine for Spring Concert

The Vasa Wind Orchestra and the Gustavus Philharmonic Orchestra will present a combined concert on Friday, May 12, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Gustavus Adolphus College. This performance, under the direction of Douglas Nimmo and Warren Friesen, is free and open to the public and will be presented in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall.

Gustavus Presents Home Concerts of Symphony and Jazz

The Department of Music presents the Home Concerts for the Gustavus Symphony Orchestra and the Gustavus Jazz Lab Band as the ensembles return from their annual spring break concert tours. The Symphony, under the direction of Warren Friesen, open the weekend with a 7:30 p.m. concert on Friday, April 7. The Jazz ensemble and director Steve Wright will follow with their home concert and guest trombonist Dave Graf on Saturday, April 8, at 7:30 p.m. in Björling Recital Hall.
