Weekend Preview: Honors Weekend and Jazz! Posted on May 3rd, 2019 by

This weekend the fine arts calendar is filled with jazz performances, including the Gustavus Jazz Ensemble and Adolphus Jazz Ensemble spring concert, as well as the Vocal Jazz showcase. This is also Honors Weekend which means the annual Honors Recital featuring several talented senior musicians on Saturday evening. Honors Weekend also marks the opening reception for “Fruition: Senior Studio Art Majors Exhibition 2019” at the Hillstrom Museum of Art.

The formal reception for the newest Schaefer Art Gallery exhibit, “Imprecision: Recent Works by Jenna Hansen” is free and open to the public.

Senior Honors Recital

The Department of Music presents the 2019 Senior Honors Recital featuring Charlie Barnhouse (saxophone), Oran Clay (tuba), Andy DeLuca (clarinet), Mycah Lerum (soprano), Alicia Lhotka (viola), and Duncan Matthew (baritone). The performance takes place in Bjorling Recital Hall.

Gustavus Jazz Ensemble and Adolphus Jazz Ensemble Spring Concert

The Gustavus Jazz Ensemble and Adolphus Jazz Ensemble, conducted by Director of Jazz Studies, Dave Stamps, present their spring concert. The concert will feature a variety of soloists as well as a student vocalist. Pieces include “A Time for Love” composed by Sammy Nestico and “La Danza Di Zefiro (the dance of Zephyr)” composed by Masayoshi Ishikawa.

The Department of Music presents the Gustavus Vocal Jazz Showcase featuring the vocal jazz ensemble under the direction of Masayoshi Ishikawa. The showcase will also feature guest vocalist and pianist Christine Hitt.

Fruition: Senior Studio Art Majors Exhibition 2019 Opening Reception

Hillstrom Museum of Art

This exhibition features the work of graduating senior studio art majors.  It demonstrates the diversity of styles and approaches taken by the student artists, some of whom intend to continue studying or working in art after graduation.  On display are works by Nicholas Beck, Emily Dzieweczynski, Sarah Link, Gino Sahagun, Christopher Schneider, Prabhjot Singh, and Megan Weaver.
