Gustavus Adolphus College presents a joint voice recital Sunday, May 8, at 3:30 p.m. in Bjorling Recital Hall. This recital combines the efforts of senior Ellen Muggli, soprano and junior mezzo soprano, Laura Carr. This recital is free and open to the public.
Laura Carr, a junior English major from Duluth, opens the recital with the assistance of Sally Johnson, harpsichord and Libby Spehar, ‘cello, in a performance of J. S. Bach’s Et exultavit spiritus meus from the Magnificat. She continues with works by Franz Schubert and Robert Schuman, accompanied by pianist Sally Johnson. Following performances by Ellen Muggli, Ms. Carr will conclude her portion of the recital with a set of works by Samuel Barber set to the poetry of James Agee, A. E. Housman and James Joyce.
Ellen Muggli, a senior English major from Decorah, Iowa, is accompanied by pianist Ana Sietsema as she presents de Falla’s Siete canciones populares espanolas, and Elle a fui, la tourterelle from Les Contes d’Hoffman by Jacques Offenbach. With a ‘cello orchestra from the Gustavus string program, she continues with Villa-Lobos’ Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5, and concludes the recital with works by Libby Larsen and Andre Previn.
Sunday’s recital by Ellen Muggli and Laura Carr is free and open to the public. A reception for the recitalists will follow the performance.
