Gustavus students will perform scenes from several operas at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25 in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall on the campus of Gustavus Adolphus College. The performances will be interactive and audience members will be allowed to participate in the scenes in a workshop setting.
The ten students have been studying the genre and rehearsing the music with Patricia Snapp and Michael Jorgensen, both associate professors in the College’s music department, as a January Interim Experience class.
“We have stretched ourselves through singing, acting, directing, improvisation, and all the facets that go into realizing live opera,” said Jorgensen. “We have also developed a strong sense of camaraderie, collaboration, and community in our class as we have helped each other realize our full potential in each scene.”
Performances include scenes from Mozart’s “The Magic Flute,” “The Marriage of Figaro,” and “Don Giovanni,” Menotti’s “Amahl and the Night Visitors” and “The Old Maid and the Thief,” and Humperdinck’s “Hansel and Gretel.”
This event is free and open to the public.
