Gustavus Choir on Tour Posted on January 31st, 2006 by

The Gustavus Choir, under the direction of Gregory J. Aune, is on a ten-day concert tour to selected cities in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

During this tour the choir will premier Stephen Paulus’ “I Will Be With You,” a work commissioned for the Gustavus Choir by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The commission is in memory of Gustavus graduate Courtney Walker who worked as a development officer for the Kennedy Center and sang with the Gustavus choir for two years, from 2000 to 2002.

“Part of the experience of singing in the Gustavus Choir is the opportunity to learn about and be exposed to new music, whether it is centuries old or written within the past year,” states Conductor Gregory Aune.

“The students then share their discoveries with those people who come to hear us sing. Johannes Brahms’ Ich aber bin elend, and Henry Purcell’s Hear My Prayer, O God are excellent examples of historical masterpieces that many members of the choir are singing for the first time,” adds Aune.

The choir has toured annually throughout the United States and abroad during its 74 — year history. Recent concert venues include St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome; St. Mark’s Cathedral in Venice, the Carmel Mission Basilica in Carmel, California, and the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.
