The Gustavus and Vasa Wind Orchestras will appear in concert, conducted by Douglas Nimmo, Friday, November 16 in Christ Chapel on the Gustavus campus. This joint concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
For the opening performance by the Vasa Wind Orchestra, Nimmo has selected works by Robert Sheldon titled Danse Celestiale, a new work by contemporary composer Eric Whitacre, October, the Symphonic Dance No. 3 by Clifton Williams and John Philip Sousa’s Semper Fidelis march.
For the second half of the program, the Gustavus Wind Orchestra will open with American Overture by Joseph Wilcox Jenkins, followed by La Procession du Rocio by Joseph Turina. The ensemble continues with selections from The Danseyre, a compilation of Renaissance period dances, and the William Byrd Suite. The program concludes with Sunrise at Angel’s Gate by Philip Sparke and Mars, from Gustav Holst’s The Planets.
Friday’s concert by the Gustavus Wind Orchestras begins at 7:30 p.m. in Christ Chapel. It is free and open to the public.
