Brassworks! Concert Concludes Busy Weekend of Music Posted on May 13th, 2008 by

The annual Brassworks! concert, conducted by Scott Moore and showcasing the work of the Christ Chapel Brass and the Gustavus Trombone and Brass Choirs, will be presented in Bjorling Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, May 18. This concert is free and open to the public.

Under the direction of Scott Moore, Brassworks! opens with Gloria by Franz Joseph Haydn and Where’er You Walk by George F. Handel presented by the Christ Chapel Brass, followed by the Trombone Choir and Processional Entry by Richard Strauss and Prelude to Act III of Die Meistersinger by Richard Wagner. The Brass Choir then returns to the stage to perform works by Richard Prichard, Chris Hazell and finish with Gershwin’s Summertime from Porgy and Bess. The Christ Chapel Brass then completes their work for the evening with the three-movement Quintet, No. 5 by Victor Ewald. The concert concludes with the Trombone Choir and performances of Inveni David by Anton Bruckner and Slavonic Dances No. 8, op. 46 by Antonin Dvorak.

Sunday’s annual concert Brassworks! with the Christ Chapel Brass, the Gustavus Trombone Choir and the Gustavus Brass Chori begins at 7:30 p.m. in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall on the Gustavus campus. It is free and open to the public.
