Christmas in Christ Chapel Broadcasts Planned

On the first weekend of December, 6,000 audience and 250 students and staff celebrated Letters and Carols, Christmas in Christ Chapel 2009, Gustavus' annual community celebration of Advent and the birth of Christ. The beauty of that celebration of music, scripture and historic and current Christmas letters will be a part of a much larger audience this Christmas season as broadcasts of the service will be carried by radio stations throughout Minnesota and Iowa.

Guitar, Brass and Choral Fill Weekend

In addition to Michael Johnson's annual concert at Gustavus this Friday, December 11, guitar, brass and choral recitals and concerts fill Jussi Björling Recital Hall the final weekend of the 2009 fall semester.

Winds of Christmas Concert Tuesday at Gustavus

The Winds of Christmas, an annual performance by the combined Gustavus and Vasa Wind Orchestras, will be presented at morning worship, 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, December 8, in Christ Chapel. Admission is free to this glorious celebration of the music of Christmas.

Michael Johnson Returns to Gustavus December 11

Michael Johnson, the singer, song-writer, storyteller, and guitarist who has delighted audiences at Gustavus Adolphus College annually for forty years, returns to Björling Recital Hall, Friday, December 11, at 8:00 p.m. This performance on the Gustavus campus is the only performance the national recording artist will present in southern Minnesota this season.

Gustavus’ “Falling Awake”: A Breathtaking, Aggressive and Hilarious Physical Theatre Project

The Department of Theatre and Dance at Gustavus Adolphus College is pleased to present the Physical Theatre Project directed by Henry MacCarthy. Letters and Carols: Christmas in Christ Chapel 2009

The campus of Gustavus Adolphus College in Saint Peter prepares to welcome visitors from across the country to Christmas in Christ Chapel, 2009, December 4, 5 & 6, a community celebration of Advent and the birth of Christ which has brought the Christmas season to 6000 visitors annually since 1973. This year’s service is titled LETTERS & CAROLS and is based on the English Christmas service of “Lessons and Carols."

Connected with Water Opens at Hillstrom Museum

The concurrent exhibitions Connected with Water (Paintings by Gudrun Westerlund) and Swedish-American Works from the Hillstrom Collection will be on view at the Hillstrom Museum of Art from November 23, 2009 through January 29, 2010. There will be an opening reception for the exhibitions on Monday, November 23, 2009, from 7 to 9 p.m. with Swedish artist Gudrun Westerlund in attendance.

Mendelssohn Piano Recital Sunday

Piano duettists Helen and Paul Baumgartner will present a recital Sunday, November 22, beginning at 3:30 p.m. in Jussi Björling Recital Hall on the Gustavus Adolphus College campus. This performance celebrates the 200th anniversary of the birth of Felix Mendelssohn. It is free and open to the public.

Gustavus Jazz Saturday

The Gustavus Jazz Lab Band and the Adolphus Jazz Ensemble, directed by Steve Wright, present their combined fall concert Saturday, November 21 at 7:30 p.m. Saturday's performance by the two jazz ensembles will be presented in Jussi Björling Recital Hall. It is free and open to the public.

Wind Orchestras’ Concert Friday

The Gustavus and Vasa Wind Orchestras will present their fall concert in Christ Chapel on the campus of Gustavus Adolphus College, Friday, November 20, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Douglas Nimmo conducts this performance which is free and open to the public.
