The Choir of the West in Concert

The Choir of the West, an outstanding collegiate choral ensemble from Pacific Lutheran
University in Tacoma, Washington, will appear in concert on Tuesday, January 27th at
Christ Chapel on the campus of Gustavus Adolphus College, 800 West College Avenue,
St. Peter, Minnesota. The concert will begin at 7:00 pm, and admission is free (a freewill
offering will be taken).

The Choir of the West was established in 1926, and was the third Lutheran college choir
to tour nationally, joining the tradition begun by the choirs at St. Olaf College and
Concordia College (Moorhead, Minnesota). There have been six directors of the Choir of
the West, including current conductor Richard Nance.

The 47-voice ensemble will present a varied program that will include works by Stephen
Paulus, Johann Sebastian Bach, Felix Mendelssohn, William Walton, Maurice Ravel, F.
Melius Christiansen and Moses Hogan, among others. Paul Tegels, professor of organ at
PLU, will accompany.
