Gustavus associate organist Chad Winterfeldt will present Olivier Messiaen’s Nine Meditations for Organ in Christ Chapel on Friday, February 13, 2009, beginning at 7:30 p.m. This faculty recital is a celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the renowned French composer and organist. The performance is free and open to the public.
La Nativité du Seigneur (The Birth of Our Lord) includes nine separate works or “meditations” based on Scriptural texts. The nine meditations are The Virgin and Child, The Shepherds, Eternal Promises, The Word, The Children of God, The Angels, Jesus Accepts Suffering, The Magi and God Among Us.
Chad Winterfeldt is Associate Organist and Director of Handbells at Christ Chapel and serves as Director of Music at First Lutheran Church in St. Peter. He holds degrees in performance from Concordia College (Moorhead), Yale University and a doctorate in organ performance from the University of Nebraska.
Friday’s performance of Messiaen’s Nine Meditations for Organ by organist Chad Winterfeldt is free and open to the public. The recital begins at 7:30 p.m. in Christ Chapel.
