North Dakota Gustavus Seniors Present Joint Recital Friday Posted on April 27th, 2009 by

Sisters and Gustavus Adolphus College seniors Marissa and Moriah Brown will present their senior recitals jointly on Friday, May 1, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Bjorling Recital Hall accompanied by pianist Beth Winterfeldt.

2005 Scranton High School graduates and the daughters of Lynn and Jeff Brown of Scranton, North Dakota, Marissa and Moriah Brown will present their senior recital on the campus of Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota. Marissa, a French horn player, will open the recital with the Horn Concerto No. 2 in E-flat major by W. A. Mozart. Her selections for the recital include Horn Concerto Op. 8 by Franz Strauss and Sonata by Paul Hindemith.

Alto and bass clarinetist Moriah Brown will open with Darkwood by David Bennett, followed by the Rhapsody for Clarinet, composed by Willson Osborne. The sisters join talents, Marissa on horn and Moriah on alto clarinet, to conclude Friday’s recital with Allegro by Georg Philipp Telemann.

Moriah Brown is a Bjorling Music Scholarship recipient with a major in health fitness. She is a member of the Gustavus Symphony Orchestra and will attend graduate school at Colorado State University after graduation to pursue a master’s degree in occupational therapy. She studies clarinet with Richard Weber.

Marissa Brown will graduate with a major in biology and a minor in music. She is also a Bjorling Music Scholarship recipient and performs with the Gustavus Symphony Orchestra. She plans to attend medical school at the University of North Dakota. She studies horn at Gustavus with Matt Wilson.

Friday’s recital is free and open to the public.
