The Department of Music at Gustavus Adolphus College is pleased to welcome Jonathan Brandt to present a guest trumpet recital at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 16, at Jussi Björling Recital Hall on the Gustavus Adolphus College campus. Mr. Brandt will be accompanied by pianist Beth Winterfeldt. The recital is free and open to the public.
A native of Fresno, California, Jonathan Brandt has performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Fresno Philharmonic, the New World Symphony and the South Dakota Symphony. He is a founding member of the Novus Brass Quintet, which was awarded the prestigious Saunderson Award at the Coleman Chamber Music Competition. Additionally, the Quintet has performed extensively at the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival. Mr. Brandt has received a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Southern California and a Master of Music degree from Rice University, studying with Boyde Hood and Marie Speziale.
Brandt will open Saturday’s recital with the Intrada pour trompette en Ut et piano by Arthur Honegger, followed by Tomaso Albinoni’s four-movement Concerto Saint Mark pour trompette et piano, and Richard Peaslee’s Nightsongs for fluegelhorn, trumpet and piano. Following intermission, Jonathan will present Solo by David Sampson and Sonate für trompete und klavier by Paul Hindmith.
Saturday’s guest trumpet recital by Jonathan Brandt and pianist Beth Winterfeldt begins at 1:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public. A reception for the musicians will follow the recital.
