Seham's FW: RE: Mom Update at Fringe Festival

Playwright Amy Seham, chair of the department and professor of theatre and dance at Gustavus Adolphus College, returns for the seventh time to Minnesota’s Fringe Festival in August with her newest play, FW: RE: Mom Update. Directed by Diane Mountford and featuring a cast of Gustavus alumni, St. Peter and Minneapolis-based actors, FW: RE: Mom Update is a humorous and insightful look at family dynamics, feminism and aging in America. Performances are scheduled at the Playwright’s Center in Minneapolis, August 5-13. Ticket information and complete schedules for the 2010 Fringe Festival are available on the festival website: www.fringefestival.org.

FW: RE: Mom Update is an insightful and sometimes humorous look at the complex relationships between adult children and their aging parents. The “children,” Liz, Rob and Abby, are trying to figure out how to deal with Evelyn, their indomitable mother – fiercely independent, but increasingly erratic. Together they face the questions posed to all adult children: What do you do when everyone keeps telling you to do something about Mom? When do you take action when persuasion fails? And how do you keep the predators at bay when everyone lives in a different state?

FW: RE: Mom Update is the seventh original theatre piece Seham has presented at the Minnesota Fringe Festival. Previous Fringe offerings include 23 Across (also directed by Diane Mountford) and last summer’s Miranda’s Amazing Adventure. This summer’s cast includes four Gustavus alumni, Randy Schmeling ’00, Nicole Chrissotimos Devereaux ’00, Nate Morse ‘04, and Michelle Kolhoff ’08, along with St. Peter actor Nadine Haglin and Minneapolis actor Jane Schrantz.

FW: RE: Mom Update opens at the Playwright Center (2301 East Franklin Avenue, Minneapolis) on Thursday, August 5 at 8:30 p.m. It continues August 7 at 5:30 p.m., August 9 at 7:00 p.m., August 11 at 10:00 p.m. and concludes on Friday, August 13 at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are available on the 2010 Fringe Festival website at: www.fringefestival.org.
